Sean Carroll
CEO of Anera, a $200M+ humanitarian organization. Julia Taft Award recipient and InterAction board member.
Sean has spent more than 30 years in international development, working in nearly 70 countries across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.
For nine years he was President and CEO of Anera, leading teams in Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and the U.S. delivering humanitarian and development assistance to refugees and vulnerable communities. In 2024 InterAction gave him its Julia Vadala Taft Outstanding Leadership Award for his leadership in support of the people of Gaza and his work to influence U.S. policy.
Before Anera he served the Obama Administration as chief of staff and COO of USAID, an agency of 9,500 staff and 84 missions. Earlier he spent six years as program director for the Club de Madrid, an alliance of former presidents and prime ministers, and 13 years at the National Democratic Institute, including two in East Jerusalem as chief of mission for the West Bank and Gaza.
